American Pop Culture through VR

Instructor: Ramon Hamilton
Materials Needed: A computer or laptop and Oculus Quest VR headset
Specifically Designed for Beginning Language Levels
Course Description: Pop culture is all around us. It shapes how we think about other countries and cultures. This class is a unique opportunity for students to step into a virtual reality world and be immersed in an English language experience through the examination of American culture.

Students will watch and discuss American movies, TV shows, commercials, etc. They will also create a media project of their choosing (magazine, video, commercial, etc.), which will demonstrate their new language skills and cultural understanding.

Students will leave this course with increased English fluency and a more accurate understanding of American culture.

Immerse Yourself in English through VR

Instructor: Ramon Hamilton
Materials Needed: A computer or laptop and Oculus Quest VR headset
Specifically Designed for Beginning Language Levels
Course Description: Enter an interactive virtual reality setting designed explicitly to increase your English language skills and confidence. As you go through the VR space, you will learn commonly used English words and phrases.

All of the immersive activities will reinforce the learning of the English language, build vocabulary and increase reading comprehension.

Art, Writing and Improv 1

Instructor: Elizabeth Rydall & Jessica Wiess
Materials Needed: A computer or laptop
Specifically Designed for Beginning Language Levels
Course Description: In this course, students will improve their English language skills through creative writing, art and theatrical improv. Through these fun and creative experiences, students will enhance their English language vocabulary, conversational skills, grammar, reading comprehension, pronunciation and more, to improve their English language skills.

Course Description: In this course, students will improve their English language skills through creative writing, art and theatrical improv. Coding for Video Games in Unity

Instructor: Ramon Hamilton
Materials Needed: computer or laptop that can adequately run Unity software.
Appropriate for Intermediate Language Levels
Course Description: In this introductory course, you will learn the basics of C# computer programming as you develop a prototype of a 2D game in Unity. You will learn how to set up a Unity project and how to use Unity’s essential game development tools. You will program most of your interactive actions through C# scripting, culminating with a playable demo.
*Prerequisites: Students should have a general understanding of video games and basic computer skills.

English as an Additional Language, Levels 1 or 2

Instructor: Stephanie Burns
Materials Needed: Computer
Course Description: This course will help you develop English skills with a focus on vocabulary and useful language — from short sentences to more complex grammar structures. Course lessons will involve projects and working with peers to help your communities. You will increase your confidence in speaking and writing basic English with clarity. The class will combine independent learning, flipped classroom techniques, and lessons with your facilitator to provide daily practice opportunities.
