Manuel Ortega is the Executive Director of Maker Learning Network, where he has served since 2019. With over two decades of experience in expanded learning and the nonprofit sector, Manuel’s work is rooted in a deep commitment to equity, access, and community impact. A first-generation college graduate and the eldest of four brothers, he was raised in East Los Angeles during a time when educational resources were limited and crime was at its peak. His journey in education began when he coached a junior high volleyball team and later worked in after-school programs at his local elementary school. There, he discovered the transformative power of education—not only for students but for entire families. Today, Manuel leads with a vision to expand opportunity and ensure all students—regardless of background—have access to the tools, resources, and inspiration they need to thrive.
