Description

WorldOver’s journalism class provides a real-life learning opportunity where students build their writing skills in a meaningful, effective, and fun way. The final product is a student publication to share with families and friends!

  • Being a “published journalist” gives students a reason to write and motivates them to do their best because others will read what they write!
  • Students of various ages and abilities can participate.
  • Initially, students will be in grade-level groups. They will have “job titles” to match their level of responsibility (2nd-3rd – Cub Reporters, 4th-7th – Ace Reporters, 8th-12th – Correspondents). Groups may be adjusted based on student enrollment or abilities.
  • Cub Reporters (2nd-3rd) will complete fun, age-appropriate writing assignments. The Managing Editors (facilitators) will teach and guide them. Parents will need to make sure assignments are completed and submitted for publishing.
  • Ace Reporters and Correspondents (4th grade and up) will have more responsibility. Articles will go through three phases of editing: self, peer, and professional editing.
  • Submissions will “go to press.” The student publication is the final project! It will be a compilation of articles, artwork, poetry, reviews, columns, and whatever else reporters are inspired to add!

Live Instruction is 12:00-1:00; 1:00-2:00 student journalists gather in the “Pressroom” where they work, collaborate, and receive guidance.
* Non A-G course credit may be earned for high school students.
