WORKSHOPS

WorldOver’s Math and Language Arts Workshops are the perfect way for learners to sharpen their skills over the break. Kids can sign up for one or both sessions.

Workshops meet twice per week, and each session is $130

MATH

K-1 Math Buddies    VIEW COURSE

Grades K-1 – Mondays & Wednesdays from 11:30-12:30 AM PT

Session 1: June 6 – June 30, 2022

Session 2: July 11 – August 5, 2022

Learners will have lots of fun as they practice adding and subtracting using small hand-made crafts called “Math Buddies.” Learners will make crafty counting tools from household materials such as cotton balls, fabric, foil, and empty egg cartons.

Materials: construction paper, tape, paste, yarn, popsicle sticks, scissors, and a hole-puncher

 


 

Math Stories that Make Sense    VIEW COURSE

Grades 1-3 – Mondays & Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00 AM PT

Session 1: June 6 – June 30, 2022

Session 2: July 11 – August 5, 2022

Learners will have fun doing math as they read stories embedded with math problems. They will be shown strategies on how to identify the key numbers and operations needed. They will also write their own stories, share them with their peers, and solve problems in their peers’ stories. Concepts: applying addition, subtraction, and number concept through stories. Learners will be solving mathematical problems, as well as reading and writing.

Materials needed: paper, pencil, scissors, and tape.

 


 

Musical Math: Recall Math Facts Using Songs & Rhymes    VIEW COURSE

Grades 3-6 – Tuesdays & Thursdays from 11:30 AM-12:30 PM PT

Session 1: June 6 – June 30, 2022

Session 2: July 11-August 5, 2022

What better way to remember math facts than with a song or a rhyme?  Learners will be taught songs and rhymes with catchy tunes that help them remember their math facts and math operations.  Concepts: math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, absolute value, square root) and operations (order of operations, commutative property, associative property, distributive property) using songs and rhymes.

Materials needed: lined paper, pencil, and ruler.

 


 

Sizing it Up: Ratios, Proportions, and Percents    VIEW COURSE

Grades 6-8 – Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10:00-11:00 AM PT

Session 1: June 6 – June 30, 2022

Session 2: July 11 – August 5, 2022

Learners will work on real-world applications to figure out ratios, proportions, and percentages. For example, practicing ratios when constructing scale models and using proportions when applied to ingredients in a recipe. They will practice converting ratios to percentages and vice versa. Concepts: applying ratios, proportions, and percentages to real-life.

Materials needed: Paper, pencil, markers, scissors, ruler, small square, and measuring tape.

 


 

All About Algebra 1: Prep A    VIEW COURSE

Grades: 7-12 – Mondays & Wednesdays from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM PT

Session 1: June 6 – June 30, 2022

Concepts covered are from semester one of Alg.1: properties of real numbers, solving linear equations, linear graphing, and functions.

Materials needed: calculator, paper, and pencil.

 


 

All About Algebra 1:  Prep B    VIEW COURSE

Grades: 7 -12 – Mondays & Wednesdays from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM PT

Session 2: July 11-August 5, 2022

Concepts covered are from semester two of Alg.1: absolute value, compound inequalities, exponents, solving linear equations by substitution, and square roots.

Materials needed: calculator, paper, and pencil.

 


 

WRITING

Language Arts for K-3, A Story and Drawing & Write and Draw    VIEW COURSE

Grades K-3 – Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10:00 AM-11:00 AM PT

Session 1: June 6-June 30, 2022

Tuesdays, A Story and Drawing

Class Doodling and drawing stimulate and exercise the brain’s right side.
In this fun and simple workshop, learners will listen to a story and doodle. Then when the story is finished, they will get to draw a character or place from the story.

Thursdays, Write and Draw

Gather around young storytellers!
Emerging writers are met where they are with their writing skills. A writing prompt will inspire them to brainstorm, draft, and write a story. The workshop includes basic grammar skills, and learners will be encouraged to use dictation, drawing, or writing to tell their stories. The mission of this workshop is to encourage young writers!

Materials needed: pencils, colored pencils, basic watercolors, markers, plain/colored paper, and scissors

 


 

Creative Writing: Oh…the Stories I Could Tell    VIEW COURSE

Grades 4-7 – Mondays & Wednesdays from 11:30 AM-12:30 PM PT

Session 1: June 6 – June 30, 2022

Session 2: July 11-August 5, 2022

In this workshop, learners will create a simple, original narrative story. They will include a hook to entice the reader, build characters and villains, and dream up the challenges their hero will face.

Materials needed: Google Docs, Google Slides, or Word.

 


 

Creative Writing: No Limits    VIEW COURSE

Grades: 8-12 – Tuesdays & Thursdays from 11:30 AM-12:30 PM PT

Session 1: June 6 – June 30, 2022

Session 2: July 11 – August 5, 2022

Create an original narrative story of your choice. Learners will captivate the reader with rich characters, settings, and plots. In addition, they may try their hand at layering in suspense and a cliffhanger.

Materials needed: Google Docs, Google Slides, or Word.

We will process your information and confirm the enrollment.  Our billing department will email payment information. We do reserve the right to cancel workshops with fewer than five enrollments. Each four-week workshop meets twice per week and is $130.
